5,8 billion $ for the free software in 2011

The free software represented a market of 1,8 billion $ American in 2006 and should reach 5,8 billion from here 2011. The progression of the incomes is however less than that of the distribution, according to the International one Dated Corporation (IDC), a firm of market research. “The free market of the software in is always with its stammerings, believes Matt Lawton, director of program at IDC. The market is rather immature (...) and even if there is a good growth on the level of the incomes, this one will be less than that of the distribution, since the majority of the software are distributed free.” If the market wants to grow more, the manufacturers of software will have thus to consider various models of businesses (sale of software, technical support, sale by subscriptions), to evaluate the possibilities of partnerships and alliances and to analyze the characteristics of the community supporting the free software. According to the study of IDC, the growth of the market of the free software - 26% annually - is mainly thorough by the interest of the consumers vis-a-vis these programs, by supports financial recent firms of placements and by the adoption of this software at the large companies.
